On a rare site you will not see these magnificent flowers with regal posture and a variety of colors. They not only decorate the courtyards, they create beautiful bouquets that can be presented to both women and men.

Gladiolus got its name because of the similarity of the shape of its long and narrow leaves to the gladius - the gladiator's sword. The stalk of the skewer is strong, leaves tightly adjacent to it give it harmony, and the flower - grandeur.

It is difficult to imagine that even before the beginning of the 19th century this beautiful flower plant did not adorn the flower beds, but was used for food or for medicinal purposes. It was only in 1807 that the first hybrids were bred in England, from which varieties of gladioli began to be formed to decorate gardens and flower beds. Only 100 years later, a cultivar of gladioli with corrugated flowers was obtained.

Gladiolus is grown from corms. They are updated annually, but can give beautiful flowering for only 3-4 years, then the flowers are crushed, lose their varietal color and degenerate. Therefore, they need to be constantly renewed, growing new bulbs from the baby.

The best planting material is the bulbs of a plant that has not yet bloomed.

Signs of a young corm, from which a beautiful and abundantly flowering plant with the characteristic properties of the variety will be obtained:

  • smooth and even surface;
  • one growth bud on the upper part;
  • absence on the top of the tuber of traces of last year's stem;
  • smooth rounded root hole in the lower part of the bulb.
