To know in which month this or that variety of this flowering decorative culture should be planted, it is necessary to correctly determine the variety and find out the main varietal features - the time and duration of flowering, as well as winter hardiness and drought resistance.

In the winter dormant period, the aboveground part dies, and the bulbs and roots easily overwinter under the snow layer. Asiatic lilies can be planted in the open ground in spring or autumn, planting socks are limited to the autumn period. Tiger lilies, as well as other hybrids and varieties that bloom in the autumn, are best planted in March.

In the same period, transplantation and transplanting of already grown plants is carried out. To plant a garden lily correctly, it is recommended to adhere to the following technology:

  • the site should be relatively sunny, slight shading of flower plantings is allowed;
  • in areas designated for lily growing, cold air masses should not stagnate;
  • flower beds with lilies should be placed in well-ventilated, but protected from gusty north wind areas;
  • in pre-prepared landing holes, it is necessary to pour a layer of coarse sand and, laying onion on it, straighten the roots;
  • planted bulbs are sprinkled completely with sand, and then with nutritious soil, after which abundant watering is carried out.

It is advisable to mulch the plantings with sawdust or a layer of peat. PWhen planting, the depth of planting material and the distance between the planting holes shown in the table should be adhered to.

Important to remember, that with a deeper planting, the lily blooms a little later, but the formation of children on the bulb is more active.

Post planting care tips

Lily care is not difficult, but it is important to take into account some of the nuances caused by the botanical features of this flower culture:

  • the first feeding should be carried out in the spring, even before the emergence of shoots, with the use of nitroammofoski, ammonium nitrate and fermented mullein;
  • in order to strengthen the stems of the plant, in the second half of summer, potassium magnesia and double superphosphate should be added;
  • on the first year, it is recommended to carefully remove all the buds that form, which will allow the plant to retain strength for flowering in the next years;
  • regular removal of all faded peduncles, as well as dried or damaged leaves;
  • the lily beetles and their larvae, which eat the buds and leaves of the plant, pose the greatest danger to the lily, therefore, manual collection of the plant parasite and timely preventive treatment of the lily should be carried out.

How to transplant lilies

In the autumn, it is advisable to cut the flower stalks at a height of 10-12 cm from the soil surface. If necessary, autumn mulching or sheltering of flower plantings for the winter with spruce branches and garden sheeting is carried out. With proper care, the lily in the garden plot near Moscow will delight the gardener with health and abundant flowering.
