How to plant roses purchased in a box

Proper planting of roses purchased in a box is a guarantee of obtaining a highly decorative and durable plant. Roses bought in such containers must not only be carefully removed from the boxes, but also promptly, and most importantly, correctly planted in a permanent place.

Seedling selection and preparation

In the process of selection and acquisition of planting material, it is recommended to give preference to grafted plants.. According to experienced gardeners and landscape design specialists, such crops are characterized by the best development and abundant flowering in the soil and climatic conditions of the middle zone of our country. Saplings of grafted roses must have a pair of well-ripened and lignified shoots with intact green staining bark. Also It is important to pay attention to the root neck, the diameter of which should be the same in all areas and not exceed 0.8 cm.

Before embarking on a rose planting, the root system should be carefully examined. All sections should be white stained. If necessary, pruning black or softened roots to living tissue. The sections of the slices must be carefully treated with crushed coal chips. Too long roots need to be trimmed, and dead sections of the root system must be removed. To saturate with moisture, it is recommended to immerse the roots of the plant for several hours in water with the addition of any rooting stimulant.

It is recommended to purchase non-southern planting material from domestic or Dutch manufacturers. The acquired plant can be both grafted and root-bearing. Immediately before planting, it is advisable to stand the roses prepared for planting on the street for several days. In this case, the decorative culture more quickly adapts to weather conditions in the growing region. It is considered optimal to transplant a rose from a boxed container in the second half of the last spring month. According to experts and experienced gardeners, paraffin protecting plants should not be removed; this will allow maximum moisture to be retained and stimulate rapid kidney growth.

Soil requirements

The root system of roses goes deep enough into the ground. For this reason, the basic preparation of the planting soil substrate should be carried out very carefully and well in advance. Rose bushes always make rather high demands on the planting site, as well as the composition of the soil:

  • the rose area should be bright, well warmed up in the sun, with sufficient air intake;
  • if necessary, planting roses should be protected from the negative effects of the north and north-east wind by bushes, trees or the front of the buildings;
  • areas with a slight slope towards the south, southwest or southeast are optimally suited for growing roses;
  • in areas located in lowlands, excess moisture should be eliminated by creating high-quality drainage;
  • the soil in the area allocated for the cultivation of rose bushes should be represented by light loams, rich in humus, with sufficient permeability to air and water;

  • the average level of groundwater occurrence should be about 0.8-1.2 m;
  • roses grow quite well in chernozem areas, and it is better to refuse to grow a decorative culture on light sandy and sandy loamy soils;
  • to improve the structure and composition of the soil, it is recommended to introduce well-rotted manure, as well as soddy soil, peat and a small amount of lime;
  • Improving the structure of heavy and clay soil is carried out by making sand, humus, compost and peat.

Do not forget about the indicators of soil acidity. Preference should be given to slightly acidic soils with a pH of 6.0-6.5. To increase the acidity of the soil, it is necessary to add peat and manure, and in order to get rid of slagging, it is necessary to introduce wood ash, lime or dolomite flour.

Thus, the soil that is optimal for the growth and growth of the rose should have the following composition: a pair of buckets of garden soil, a bucket of humus, a bucket of peat, a bucket of coarse sand with a bucket of fine weathered clay, as well as a small amount of superphosphate.

Landing technology

Before planting rose seedlings, it is necessary to carry out preventive treatment of the root system against diseases with the drug "Maxim" or a solution based on copper sulfate. A good result is given by immersing the roots of the decorative culture in a clay mash solution with the addition of mullein, which will prevent the root system from drying out and improve the survival rate of the rose. The diameter of a round planting hole may slightly exceed the size of the root system of a decorative flowering plant.

The depth of immersion of a seedling depends on the variety of roses:

  • hybrid tea roses, floribunda and miniature roses need to be deepened by three centimeters;
  • climbing and any park varieties of flowering culture, as well as ground cover roses, are required to be planted with a depth of five centimeters.

After planting, it is necessary to water the plants abundantly, as well as to mulch the plantings with well-rotted humus, wood bark or sawdust. If the first days after planting are very sunny, plants need to be shaded.

When planting rose bushes, it is recommended to focus on the following indicators of density:

  • hybrid tea varieties - about six plants per square meter;
  • climbing roses - no more than two plants per square meter;
  • park varietal roses - not more than four plants per square meter;
  • ground cover varietal roses - in the amount of six to seven plants per square meter;
  • miniature and compact stunted roses - about ten plants per square meter.

If necessary, you can plant roses in the autumn, but no later than a month before the onset of a steady cooling.

Growing recommendations

Caring for roses out of the box is standard, but it should be remembered that plants that form red flowers often burn out in the sun and can lose their attractiveness in a short time.

In multi-flowered inflorescences, the largest, central flower should be left, and the side buds are removed. It is necessary to strictly observe the regimes of watering and top dressing, as well as timely removal of weeds and preventive treatment of plants to protect against damage by diseases or pests.
