Tomato Bear-toed: Description of Varieties and Agricultural Engineering Rules

Large-fruited, with tasty meaty flesh, Teddy Bear, the tomato invariably receives high marks from gardeners and has proven itself when grown in most regions of Russia, including the Moscow Region. A promising domestic variety belongs to relatively new and high-yielding tomatoes.

Varietal benefits and varieties

Indeterminate plant type, tall, with a fairly moderate formation of vegetative mass. It has dark green leaves of medium size. In the soil and climatic conditions of our country, this variety is perfect for cultivation both on open soil beds, and in greenhouses or greenhouses.

At present, four main varieties of mid-ripening Teddy Bear bear cultivars have been developed, which do not have significant differences in taste, but according to the description they form fruits of different colors.

Grade namePlant descriptionFetal characteristicVarietal Features
"Bear yellow-toed"A plant with an average level of leafiness, up to 1.6-1.9 m highYellow, heart-shaped, very fleshy, with sweet and tasty pulp, average weight up to 0.8 kgResistance to defeat by alternariosis, fusariosis, tobacco mosaic virus

Agricultural technology of culture

Recommended for seedling cultivation. In order to obtain the highest quality seedlings, sowing of seeds should be carried out from mid-March to the first decade of April. Prepared seeds should be deepened by about one centimeter.

Dive tomato seedlings must be in the phase of two of these leaves. Throughout the entire period of growing seedlings, plants should be fed two to three times with complex mineral fertilizers. About ten days before planting in a permanent place, it is required to begin hardening of seedlings.

How to plant tomatoes

Two-month-old Teddy Bear tomato seedlings must be planted on greenhouses (in late April or early May). Tomato seedlings are planted on ridges in open ground in June. High-quality seedlings should have about six to seven true leaves and one flower brush. The standard planting scheme for tomato seedlings is −30x50 cm.

Irrigation measures are recommended in the early morning or after sunset, using only warm water. Top dressing should be carried out throughout the growing season, using complex mineral fertilizers. Harvest should be harvested as it ripens, preventing the fruits from ripening on the hands.

How and how to mulch tomatoes

Mulching of tomato plantings both in open and in protected ground is quite a popular event, which allows to reduce the number of irrigation events and reduce water consumption. Another useful property of mulching the soil around tomato bushes is the elimination of weed vegetation, since a thick layer of mulch very effectively prevents the rapid growth of weeds.

In addition, as the practice of home gardening shows, the correct and timely mulching of greenhouse tomatoes increases the overall yield by about 25%, and also reduces the ripening time of the vegetable crop by an average of one to two weeks.

Most often, forest litter, straw, sawdust and shavings, humus or compost, as well as mowed grass, are used as organic mulch. However, inorganic mulch is also quite effective. If organic mulch, in addition to its main function, is able to enrich the soil with useful components necessary for the full growth and development of a vegetable culture, then inorganic materials are quite convenient to use. As an inorganic mulch, roofing material, Agril, Agrotex, Lutrasil, Spanbond and other nonwoven materials, as well as black plastic film can be used.

According to most experts in the field of vegetable growing, as well as according to experienced gardeners and summer residents, the most optimal is still the organic mulching of tomatoes. Organic mulch not only passes air well, but also inhibits weed growth, protects the soil from drying out, helps cool the soil, and also forms humus, which is valuable for the growth and development of any vegetable crops.

Reviews of gardeners

According to the opinion of domestic gardeners, all varieties of tomatoes of the Bear-toed-foot variety produce very tasty, incredibly juicy and fleshy fruits, which are good not only in fresh form and salads, but are also great for preparing first courses and tomato sauce. Harvested fruits are excellently preserved and suitable for transportation. Tomatoes of this variety can also be picked green, as they ripen quickly enough at home at room temperature.

Why mulch tomatoes

An important varietal advantage is also a high level of resistance to damage by the main, most harmful diseases characteristic of all nightshade crops. Nevertheless, the "Bear-toed" bear belongs to varieties that need high-quality soil and high agricultural technology, and the need to properly form a tomato bush makes its cultivation by beginners and inexperienced gardeners quite problematic.
