Hello! Tell me, please, what is gloxinia avanti? Of course, I have an idea of what this plant looks like. I must say, it looks beautiful. I saw this miracle from my colleague working on the windowsill and fell in love. Then for my birthday they gave me the subject of my dreams. They just intimidated me with stories about the difficulties that await me when caring for a flower. Until now, I have lived very simple and unpretentious plants, with which there was no hassle. And then a capricious guest from the tropics came to the windowsill. They say that she should sleep in winter. It's true? How can I do that? What other problems are there in growing gloxinia? One more question excites me. A neighbor saw my gift on the windowsill and already asked for a process. However, none of us knows how to do this. How to plant this plant?

Avanti gloxinia is a tuberous plant from South and Central America. In nature, it grows in a tropical climate with variable moisture, where in the natural environment there is a rainy season and droughts, so the plants have developed the ability to go into hibernation for several months.

This is the biggest difficulty in caring for all the gloxinia hybrid lines. In our conditions, this tropical guest herself understands that winter has come. Somewhere by December, it ceases to bloom and drops leaves. This means that the flower is time to sleep. Transfer the pot to a dark and cool place. The wintering temperature should be around 5-10 ° C. Darkness may not be absolute, but such that photosynthesis does not occur. Some residents of high-rise buildings send gloxinia for the winter in the refrigerator.

The only care during wintering is watering. The ground should be slightly moist. With too much water, the tubers can rot, with drought they can die from drying out.

After a couple of months, you will see green sprouts appear from the soil. This means that the wintering was successful, and it is time for gloxinia to be warm and sunny.

This plant can be propagated in 2 ways - by seeds and cuttings. Her seeds are very small, germination lasts a long time, even longer you have to wait for the first flowers. But the cuttings are fast and with minimal losses. Cut the sheet at the very base, dig it into the ground by three centimeters and cover with a glass jar on top. Periodically, the vessel must be removed and air freshened. As soon as green sprouts emerge from the earth, you can be congratulated on your new acquisition - you can please yourself or make gifts.

The rest of gloxinia is not picky and blooms beautifully for about six months. In addition to a safe wintering, this plant must provide:

  • fertile loose earth with lots of organic matter;
  • moderate watering (waterlogging is fraught with decay, under-watering - by chopping leaves and flowers);
  • moderate lighting (without direct sunlight, but with a long period of illumination);
  • periodic top dressing with complex fertilizers containing potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen.

Here, perhaps, all the subtleties. It remains only to add, gloxinia is an obsolete name. New - this is a beautiful syningia, about which the plant itself does not suspect and blooms well under any name.
